Residence: Santa Barbara, California
School: Cate School
Intended major: Chemistry
Age during program: Grade 11

Chloe is intrigued by the wonders of science and she is now enrolled in Advanced Chemistry and Honors Biology programs in school. Outside of school, she took Honors Chemistry, AP Biology, and AP Computer Science, all of which she has received fantastic results in. She is particularly interested in the science of chemistry and how its applications are inherently interdisciplinary.

What challenges did she face?

  • Chloe is considering majoring in general chemistry, biochemistry, or chemical engineering. She has not, however, done enough research into each field to make a definitive decision.

Matched professor:

The mentor is an Assistant Professor in Biomedical Engineering at Brown University. At the same time, she is secretary of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society – Providence Section, Editorial Board Member of Science Progress (Sage Publishing) and peer review panelist for the American Heart Association Bioengineering-Basic Science (BSc3) group.

How did our program help her?

  • Chloe required help organizing and discussing a vast quantity of information critically. She also needed help formulating her point of view and make meaningful discussion/conclusions about the chosen issue rather than simply summarizing the current literature.

Below is part of an example work done during the program:
